Farming out work…
It has been a while since I have had a chance to post, I work alone and have to meet the needs of a very large store. During Christmas that can be a daunting task, and I take every oppurtunity to lessen the load.

Farming out labor is one of the best ways that I have found. Specifically, casting, I have limited space, the power is turned off at the breaker box at night in the store (no overnight burnouts), and like I said earlier I have no help. So, even though it takes extra time and money to ship waxes and castings back and forth, it doesnt take up any more of MY time, and by sending work to the specialist you put the responsibility of doing the job right in the hands of people who’s business is to do just that. I personaly use Quality Casting in New York, they make molds of my waxes, and more times than not, return my original models back intact. The molds are cut perfectly, the castings are returned with any imperfections lasered, and if they for some reason mess a job up, they fix it. It takes a big load off my shoulders, and even though I have the capabilities of casting in my own shop, I have only chosen to do so once since being in the newest location.
If you are reluctant to to send your work out, I understand, but do yourself a favor and give it a try once. you might find that it frees you up to do the more creative things that you have put on the shelf because you have to quench those castings.
