Bad Designs…
I have to vent a little. There are a lot of great designers out there who make truely exceptional pieces of jewelry. One of them that does not, and somehow continues to sell jewelry by the boat load is
David Yurman. I suppose that I shouldnt complain, because if it were not for ALL the Yurman pieces I have to fix, or the much inflated price I have to charge in order to size a ring or work on anything of his really, then I would be considerbly less busy. It has started to make me angry lately though, when I think of the money he is making selling people what can only be described as crap jewelry. Selling silver jewelry at 18k gold prices should be a crime, setting diamonds in silver jewelry should be a crime, and bezel setting heat sensitive jewelry in silver rings should be a crime. They (David Yurman) make it so difficult to work on their stuff, that unless a customer buys a ring within a size or so of fitting, you have to buy a custom order ring from Yurman in the paticular size needed. What a racket they have going. I even had a Yurman rep once ask me laughing “You fix alot of our jewelry don’t you”.
I dont really know the point of this entry other than to get that of my chest. It just burns me every time I think of someone being able to patent the “cable look” then hire an army of lawers to defend it, even though several other people did it first.
